Definition of “Shinkyu” at ISA
“Shinkyu (鍼灸, pronounced [SHihN k-y-OO])” is a Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion was imported to Japan from China in 6th century. It has uniquely evolved in its theories , techniques and tools into Japanese style and became Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion.
Currently there are countless Japanese styles from various schools and groups. Regardless of which, any style of Acupuncture and Moxibustion derived from Japan and original, can be called as “Shinkyu”.

Dr. Atsuki Maeda is an acupuncturist in Japan and in California who specializes in and teaches Shinkyu (Japanese Acupuncture & Moxibustion) and Celestial Acupuncture, and has been practicing for over 37 years.
He is a long time professor, instructor in Japanese Acupuncture at various Universities and institutions, and the CEU (Continue Education Unit) instructor.
